A virtual reality simulation developed by dilium enhances technical training for FS Logistix operators

Within the innovation program promoted by the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Group, dilium has developed and presented at Expo Ferroviaria an immersive training prototype dedicated to freight wagon inspection. The demonstration took place inside Pavilion 11, in the Logistics area of the FS Group stand.

The virtual reality application, designed for Meta and Pico headsets, recreates a realistic and safe environment where FS Logistix railway personnel can practice the technical checks carried out daily in freight yards before train departures. The simulation reproduces variable conditions such as rain, snow, day or night, and wagons with potential anomalies, making the training experience more effective and engaging.

Unlike other VR training experiences available on the market, the dilium project stands out for its simplicity of use and attention to user experience, developed in close collaboration with FS Logistix experts. All anomalies were coded according to the “Manuale di Mestiere Verifica” by Mercitalia Rail, ensuring full adherence to real inspection cases.

Gamification elements further increased engagement among trainers and participants: many operators with decades of experience found it stimulating to relive their daily work in an immersive virtual setting.

“The experience with FS Logistix of the FS Group was exciting and inspiring. It is one of our first immersive VR training projects, where we focused on pixel-perfect quality and user experience to make learning realistic and never trivial,” commented Donato De Ieso, Co-founder & CEO of dilium.

The FS Group booth at Expo Ferroviaria drew considerable attention, becoming a meeting point for visitors and professionals eager to try the simulation firsthand.
